Winter Wonderland....CA style

As a result of the incredible storm we just had in So. Cal, there is a heavy layer of snow on the Saddleback mountains right behind our house. This is the view from our balcony upstairs. It's the first time I've ever seen this since we've lived here so it's very exciting! On the other side of our house (from our bedroom), there is a clear ocean view today, which we normally only get when it rains. Hey, even though it's many miles away, it's still an ocean view to me :)

Santa Baby - baby wasn't having it

Was it the fluffy white beard? Or perhaps the strange hat? Either way, Grace wasn't having it. She didn't like Santa with mommy on his lap so we thought we'd throw daddy into the mix, which clearly didn't help - as illustrated below. Oh well, she'll like him when she realizes he brings her toys.

Yeah, a Babysitter

Grace had her first real "non-family" babysitter this week - our neighbor Gisselle. They played and had fun while I got to go the gym.

Stats & Feeling Merry

We visited the pediatrician today for Grace's 1 year check up. She was great until the nurse came in with those darn shots. I don't blame her - it hurts me as much as it hurts her.
Stats:
Wt: 21.4 lbs / 43%
Ht: 30 in / 66%

On a different note, I'm getting VERY excited about Christmas now that its December. The house is decorated, I started the outdoor lights today (see below) and we're planning to take Grace to get our Christmas tree next weekend. Let the Fa la la la la fun begin!!

We're Pooped!

Tonight Grace and her daddy nap after a busy weekend while Rosco watches tv (only our crazy dog). Mike and I had a fun champagne brunch this morning at the Bay Club and then Nana, Grace and I went to check out the big Christmas tree at Fashion Island. Grace liked looking at all the dogs more than the tree but we're starting to try to teach her the "idea" of Christmas in terms of Christmas trees, lights and Santa. We can't wait to take her to visit Santa after Thanksgiving! ....good night my sweets.

The Christmas Co.

It seems more like summer than Christmas right now, but we visited the Christmas Company on Friday and Grace wanted to walk everywhere and have nothing to do with her stroller. Linda Rigg gave her this adorable dress which was handmade in Mexico.

Joey

This is Grace's new friend Joey. Joey's mom is in Nana's bible study group and his sweet family is visiting from Korea for one year.

Osh Kosh

Had to share Grace in her overalls. They've been sitting in her closet for weeks and this morning they called out our name....

Our Baby is ONE!!

Happy Birthday to You. Happy Birthday to You. Happy Birthday dear Gracie....Happy Birthday to You!!!

Halloween

Grace was a little mouse for Halloween. We spent the day carving pumpkins and hanging out with the neighbors, and Grace was having so much fun that she didn't take her 2nd nap which meant the evening was short lived. Mike and I took her to 3 houses and then we called it a night. Nana & Papa came over for Chinese take out :) Here's the semi-happy and sad version of being in her costume....

Aquarium

We went to the Aquarium of the Pacific today and Mike and I constantly smiled at Grace's reactions to the fish, otters, puffins, sea lions, etc. It was a fun day and stealing daddy away from work was awesome!

Happy Birthday Grandma

We went to El Ranchito last night with Grandma, Grandpa, Ashley and Ryan to celebrate Grandma's birthday. Grace was so good! She loved her quesadilla and she also loved playing with Grandpa's moustache. Happy Birthday Grandma!!!

Jacob Gives Grace a Ride

Watch out...there's a 3 year old cowboy on the loose and he's driving a black truck with a 1 year old female passenger whose green binkey is hanging out of her mouth. It's baby Bonnie and Clyde and they're armed and dangerous. Last seen in a Foothill Ranch neighborhood....

Pumpkin Patch

Grace visited her first pumpkin patch this weekend and she was so happy. She loved the pumpkins, haystacks and animals. She even enjoyed the scary decorations and haunted house. We picked out a giant pumpkin that is enjoying his new home in our courtyard. We'll be hitting up more pumpkin patches over the next few weeks since there are so many around town! It's amazing to think I went into Labor w/ Grace last Halloween night...she was only 3 hours away from being a little Halloween baby :)

Block Party

Each year we have an annual block party and this year our street is about to explode with kiddos. We're up to 22 kids --- elementary school & younger. This is good news for Grace because there are 5 little girls within 6 months of Grace's age so she'll have fun playing with them once she gets a little older. Mike fondly referes to the cul-de-sac as "Romper Room" because when he comes home from work he has to wait for many kids, moms & electric toys to clear a path to our driveway.

Mama's Helper

Grace likes to help me unload the dishwasher but usually she's standing on the ground and playing with the bottom rack. This morning she decided to get on the dishwasher to reach the top rack when I turned away for a few seconds.

Brown Bear, Brown Bear...What do You See?

I see Grace & Grandma looking at me!
We had a fun weekend going to the zoo with Grandma on Saturday. We rode a train and saw a lot of bees. We went shopping with Ashley and Grandma on Sunday. Grace loves Nordstrom :)

Merry-go-Round

Grace and her buddies Noah and Eli were so excited to hit up the Merry-go-Round today, we had to ride twice.
Let's go!
Look at the horsies Grace (says Noah). I see them too (says Eli).
Mama, Grace, Noah, Robin & Eli...don't you just want to squeeze that cute belly?!

Pizza and Football

Sunday was a very important and happy day at the Porco home. After all, it was the kick-off of Football season so Grace had to cheer for Daddy's team in her cute little Jets outfit (thanks Aunt Jen and Uncle Kylen!). We topped-off the evening with a visit to Grandma and Grandpa's house where Grace got a lot of love and we got Grandpa's world famous pizza. Mommy's FAVORITE meal!

10 Months Old

Grace is 10 months old today, on this Labor Day.

A few noteworthy things she's doing - waving 'hi' and 'bye', cruising, sharing food with us, saying 'dada' and an occasional 'mama', mimicking us, dancing (moving back and forth to music) and standing a lot. Her stats are:

Weight: 20 lbs, 70% percentile
Height: 28.5, 75% percentile
HC: 17.25, 80% percentile
Only two more months until the big 1.0!

Grace Goes to College?

Well, not really.....but she did show an interest in joining Ashley on her off-to-college adventure by helping pack up her car this past weekend. Grace is going to miss her favorite Aunt but luckily she's only about an hour away so we'll go "back to college" and visit Ashley from time to time. Ahhhh, college days are the best. I had so much fun at U of A. Ashley is going to have FUN too!

Visiting Uncle Jeff in San Diego Today

Yeah, we found a water fountain!
Grace loved Chi Chi, but Chi Chi wasn't so sure about Grace...a little too loud and unpredictable :) Littles (the cat) wouldn't even come out from under the bed.
Admiring Jeff's fish tank.

Four Year Anniversary

Four years ago Mike and I walked down the aisle full of excitement and anticipation about starting our new life together as husband and wife. It was the happiest day of my life. This weekend we celebrated our anniversary with an overnight getaway to Newport Beach where we got married (yes, we traveled quite a distance).
Over a fantastic dinner last night we talked about the last 4 years - about our wedding, having Grace, the changes with our jobs, and I thought about a moment on our honeymoon when we were sitting in a little cabana on the beach in Maui talking and dreaming about "the future". Where were we going to buy a house? When were we going to finally get the puppy I've wanted for so long? What about our career goals? When should we think about having a baby? If, at that moment, someone would have shown me a glimpse of this 4-yr anniversary I would have had to pinch myself because the first four years have blown away any dreams I had that day on the beach in Maui. And, if four years can be so great then I can't wait to see what the next 40 years bring.

I love you Michael John Porco. You are such a supportive husband and amazing dad. The happiest day of my life is now everyday when I watch you scoop-up Grace and flash her a smile as genuine, loving and as big as the one she's giving right back to you. I'm so blessed to have you both. Happy Anniversary.
